When the Division II BlueCross Bowl championship games go off today, two of the three will be rematches of games played earlier this season.
The other one is a revival of a long rivalry that was halted when Division II-AAA split into East and West regions. Although that rivalry was considerably one-sided – MBA had defeated McCallie each of the last 14 meetings and 19 of the last 21 – the two teams still had their share of tough games against each other. The Blue Tornado last took down the Big Red in 2006, so a victory Thursday would be sweet for McCallie for more reasons than one.
Davidson Academy and CPA are looking to extend their title reigns another year, and while Davidson Academy has been on a 10-game winning streak since dropping the first two to begin the year, the Lions have played the long game. CPA’s schedule may have piled on some early losses, but they’re better off for it, and they might be the most battle-tested team playing in Cookeville this week. There’s more than one way to end up with the gold ball, but they all include winning when it counts the most, and the six teams playing today have done just that.
