This week’s Midstate Player of the Week is Smith County senior John Ross Hord
Hord rushed for 211 yards and six touchdowns in the Owls’ 59-8 victory over visiting Grundy County. Smith County (6-4) finished as the No. 2 seed in Region 4-3A and hosts Sweetwater in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs this week.

Middle Tennessee Christian School senior Kemari McGowan rushed 17 times for 442 yards with 7 touchdowns and 5 2-point conversions in the Cougars’ 60-22 victory at Grace Christian-Franklin in Week 9. The 442 yards set a TSSAA state record for most rushing yards by a quarterback. McGowan, the normal starting tailback, was filling in at quarterback due to injury and illness to the Cougars’ active quarterbacks. (Photo by Loveless Photography)
